Civic Nightmare Update: Web Stability, Mobile Touch, and New Hidden Rooms
This update was focused on one thing: making the itch.io version feel like the real game, not a compromised browser build.
Web build improvements
- Fixed the HTML version so it runs correctly on itch.io without the old cross-origin / SharedArrayBuffer issues.
- Improved browser performance by disabling the heaviest effects on Web while keeping the look and tone intact.
- Fixed Web audio playback so procedural sounds and zone audio behave correctly in browser builds.
- Cleaned the export path so the uploaded HTML package is the correct one for itch.
Mobile and touch support
- Added invisible touch controls for phone play.
- Movement now works like an invisible stick on the left side of the screen.
- Tapping the rest of the screen advances dialogue, interactions, and cutscenes.
- Removed visible on-screen buttons so the screen stays clean and the touch flow feels more natural.
New and improved interiors
- Xi Jinping now has a full interior behind the Great Wall, with a dedicated red command room and pre-scene setup.
- Kim Jong-un now has a proper interior entered through the cannon landmark, instead of standing outside.
- Sam Altman now lives inside the nuclear plant in a server-filled neural core room.
- Entry triggers for large landmarks were improved so they work more reliably from different approach angles.
Encounter and cutscene polish
- Fixed Xi's pre-scene flow so the AI video and the actual conversation are now fully separated.
- Improved the Bezos drone sequence and fake arcade fight presentation.
- Cleaned up the bunker and contamination timing so hidden scenes land better and read more clearly.
- Adjusted several dialogue and portrait transitions so speakers switch correctly in special scenes.
Post-finale flow
- The game no longer drops out at the end of the main route.
- After the final sequence, free exploration continues so optional characters, anomalies, and hidden encounters can still be tested and discovered.
This build is much closer to the intended version of Civic Nightmare: unstable in tone, but stable in the browser.
